Viva Vigan Festival of the Arts: Binatbatan
Festivals are annual celebrations for religion,
culture, and traditions. It is where people come together and rejoice with
their loved once, and also a time for everyone to relax and have fun.
Viva Vigan festival of arts stars
during the first week of May and is a weeklong festivity. Having both religious
and secular importance to it. Binatbatan festival was first started in 1993 to
help promote awareness on the values of the historic towns in hopes to strengthen
the resolve to preserve and protect the Heritage sites.
The festival includes Binatbatan street
dancing. The dancing is connected to Vigan’s Abel Iloco craft. And an amazing
concept of the dance is to depict how Abel is made. In the 3rd day
of May, a mass is celebrated at the Simbaan a Basiit.
The Viva Vigan Festivities of arts and
Binatbatan festival attracts tourists all over the country. This festival also
contributes much to the economy og the city because local products such as
native delicacies, souvenirs shops are being promoted. Even the small transportations
like calesa and tricycles are benefitted.
Overall, Binatbatan Festival is a very significant event
where people can enjoy watching the unique culture that we have. Promoting people’s
awareness on the values of the historic towns in
hopes to strengthen the resolve to preserve and protect the Heritage sites as
well as its unique culture and traditions.
