WOMEN EMPOWERMENT: AN ACT OF EQUALITY

 

          Everyone in our society, regardless of their gender, possess strength in them. Whether their strength be physical, emotional or mental strength, no one can deny that we all have power in us. But at the same time, we are all still equal.

          I say that now but in reality, many of us face discrimination and inequality especially with women. Society sees one gender to be the “superior gender”, which is not the case as we are all are equal. All are entitled to equal rights and equal treatment. No matter the gender, race nor belief. So, for that we celebrate Women’s month. But what is women’s month you ask? Women’s month aims to highlight to access action towards gender equality and look forward to steps that must be taken to ensure progress in empowering women. “But does that mean it implies that women are better than men?” The answer is NO. Women’s empowerment DOES NOT mean that women are better then men or to belittle men but be equals. It asks everyone to respect and treat women equally.  Especially in this time of the pandemic where it has further exposed gender gaps and exacerbating vulnerabilities in social, political and economic aspect. With this mindset it will be hard for us, as a society, to develop because some people do not see the potential a person has because of their gender.

         Overall, women empowerment is all about promoting women’s rights and gender equality. It is not to belittle the other genders but is a union of encouraging each other to fight for what is right. Everyone is unique in their own ways and that uniqueness does not mean we should belittle other, but instead cherish our own ways and manners.
