“THE FORTY DAYS OF LENT”

Lent is a period of 40 days during which Christians remember the events leading up to and including the death of Jesus Christ, whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity. It is a time for reflection and asking for forgiveness. The Lenten Season is when Catholics or Christians recalls the passion, sacrifice, love, suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of lent. It is a solemn reminder of human mortality and the need for reconciliation with God and marks the beginning of the penitential Lenten season. It is commonly observed with ashes and fasting. People would attend mass where you will get marked on the forehead by the priest with ashes as a sign of inner repentance.

Palm Sunday commemorates the entrance of Christ into Jerusalem, when palm branches were placed in his path, before his arrest on Holy Thursday and his crucifixion on Good Friday. It thus marks the beginning of Holy Week, the final week of Lent. Churches would usually be crowded with people from inside and outside. Everyone would be holding palaspas or palm fronds, to be blessed by the priest and bring home after.

Unfortunately, we are still in a pandemic, the church be be crowded and people must practice social distancing at al times. This year, just like the last, officials would only allow a limited number of people in the church. But we can still attend can just watch the online live of the event at their homes.
