CELEBRATING LIFE: KANNAWIDAN YLOCOS FESTIVAL 2022


   

         Every year we celebrate different kinds of festivals, this year is no different. Colorful festival decorations, people coming to experience the festival and vendors can be seen everywhere selling foods and souvenirs. Kannawidan Ylocos Festival became an annual festival that aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province' rich cultural heritage, practices and traditions, and a showcase of the different agriculture and industry products of the province.

Kannawidan festival in the Province of Ilocos Sur commemorating the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. This festival is a showcase of indigenous performances, religious rituals, as well cooking demos featuring the best of Ilocano dishes. Many people across Ilocos Sur, including tourists, came to visit the festival located at the Tamag grounds of Vigan City. The celebration was officially opened by the provincial government headed by Gov. Ryan Luis Singson, together with Vice Gov. Jeremias C. Singson, Sangguniang Panlalawigan members, and officials and employees of local government units and national government agencies.

            Many programs were held. During the opening ceremony, the Suyo indigenous People Community Group performed an ethnic dance “Tadek Ken Balliwer”. It is a traditional dance that expresses the jubilation over victory, thanksgiving, and other important events. On its first night, it was welcomed with the dancing fountain show, a drone light show, and fireworks display brightly blazed at the top of the New Legislative Building right after. Coronation of the Saniata Ti Ylocos beauty pageant and The Chef Wars Cooking Competition was held the same day. The next day was an LGBTQ Night with an event entitled Your Face Sounds Familiar, The Lip Sync Battle.


            Overall, Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is a very significant event for the Ilokano people. Kannawidan Ylocos Festival became an annual festival that aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province' rich cultural heritage, practices and traditions, and a showcase of the different agriculture and industry products of the province.
